Sell or Donate

  • Books can be donated to charities, to be resold in their charity shops or to be given to those in need.
  • You can sell books to online sites such as Music Magpie.
  • Some bookshops near universities buy back text books.
  • You might be able to donate specialised magazines to clubs, e.g. art magazines to art groups or gardening magazines to gardening clubs.
  • Swap with friends.
  • You can sell your second hand goods through websites such as ebayFacebookPreloved and Gumtree.
  • You can donate your unwanted items via websites such as FreecycleFreegle and Freeloved.

Buy or Receive

  • You can buy second hand books online, in second hand book shops and in charity shops.
  • Sometimes libraries sell off books they no longer want.
  • Or why not borrow a book from a library if it’s not one you want to keep.
  • Another way to reduce waste is by purchasing your book as an eBook (a publication made available in digital form).
